What happened to the American dream that I grew up understanding? I remember my dad, over 50 years ago, telling me I needed to go to college, work for a big secure company, work hard, be loyal and then I could retire. That’s what I bought into for just a couple of years until I discovered Network Marketing and I realized that the “retire part” equaled a gold watch, a pat on the back, a farewell dinner, and an income that was half of what I couldn’t live on before retirement!
The way we think about work is changing. Starting at the bottom, working hard and moving up through the corporate ladder is not an appealing option anymore. Not when big companies can lay off 10,000 people without notice and shatter the dreams and goals of loyal faithful employees. What a scary proposition for our kids and their future!
Direct Sales, through the Network Marketing/ Home Based business model, is now becoming a viable option for our millennial generation. Anyone born after 1980 has witnessed what has happened to their parents and have come to the realization that they may not be able to have the same type of income or future with a big corporation that was available to the boomer generation.
Finding what you love and like to do is the NEW American dream as far as I can see.
It is not so much the traditional road of graduate from high school, go to college, and find lifetime employment that I grew up embracing, but a new perspective of what really is important to each individual. Network Marketing is offering a great, limitless opportunity to those that really like people, which want an open-ended income, that can’t invest thousands of dollars to be in their own business but have always dreamed of being their own boss. To be in business FOR themselves but not BY themselves. To have a support structure, a system to follow and training that will give them every advantage to do what they may love to do. To help others while they help themselves.
Residual income is another facet of the Network Marketing industry that I love. What other opportunity allows a person to work hard for a time and then, when enjoying the beaches of Hawaii, can still earn income through a team of self-motivated entrepreneurs just like themselves, that are back home building their business and providing an income from their efforts. That is amazing!
J Paul Getty, the oil billionaire used to say, “I’d rather earn 1% of a 100 peoples’ efforts than 100% of my own.” Our industry of direct sellers recognizes and embraces this philosophy.
I believe that now more than ever in the history of this great country the American Dream is more real and more viable with Direct Sales companies than ever before. It may not be for everyone, but it is sure better than what was the traditional opportunity.
Let’s make sure that message is delivered loud and clear to our younger generation so we may reduce their struggle of finding their dream for a better future!
