So, what is the first thing you think about when you wake up?
Spike Lee gets up every morning at 5a.m. and starts his day of work. He'll write or craft a scene or screen footage. He starts the process of filmmaking in some capacity.
- It takes determination and willingness to be able to do that.
- These are not trends among successful people but qualities and skills and mindset developed over time.
- It’s a deep knowing of where you’re going and why every morning.
- It’s your goals or lack of goals that trigger your subconscious to wake up with some direction or no direction!
- It's a single, clear focus; a set path on which you're moving with full momentum.
With a clear direction and concentrated goal, waking at 5a.m. is not a chore or an obligation. It's what you do because you know your goal and what it takes to get there. There's no question in your mind about moving full speed ahead because you see where you're moving towards.
Being goalless is like a ship without a rudder. You will wander aimlessly until you end up on the rocks.
The trouble lies when there are multiple paths in front of you, not just one. When you're uncertain of what your purpose is and how to get there, then the energy and action fades mighty fast. It's harder to purposefully get up when you're not sure what the purpose is.
Getting clear on what you want and how you'll get there is a crucial first step in being able to make the effort needed to succeed. It creates the energy.
The goal, and then a plan to get there, makes it all happen. Building a plan around that goal is the key to triggering and motivating “get up out of bed” enthusiasm.
I believe you should keep a journal and write out a plan with a daily list of what to do, how many calls you need to make, whatever is needed for you to reach your goal. Record it in that journal to create some accountability at the end of each day. Whether your goal is writing a novel, a screenplay, building a company or a sales team, it all requires a daily plan. Remember that waking up at 5a.m. , working till late in the night, or working tirelessly requires serious effort. The larger meaning behind it has to shine through for you to toil away daily.
It's not just about getting the work done. It's about wanting to wake up every day ready and excited to do the work you know you were meant to do.
Set your goals and wake up with purpose!
